Daytime Paris-to-Berlin Train to Launch in December
Two of Europe's most popular capital cities will soon be connected by a new high-speed daytime train. The daily train between Paris and Berlin will make its first trip this December, according to the companies operating the service.
A night train between the French and German capitals launched last year.
The new service is good news for travelers who'd like to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.
Traveling by train is much better for the planet than flying. According to the website Our World in Data, taking a train instead of a domestic flight could reduce your carbon dioxide emissions by 86%.
Of course, the train is much slower than flying, which takes about 105 minutes.
It will take about eight hours to travel between the cities on the service operated by French train company SNCF and the German Deutsche Bahn.
But prices are quite similar. Prices for a second-class ticket on the train start at about $67, which is a little more expensive than the cheapest flights between the cities, according to DW.
Until now, passengers wanting to make the trip have had to change trains on the way — but not anymore.
The new service will stop in the French city of Strasbourg, as well as Karlsruhe and Frankfurt in Germany.
It's expected to be a popular service among those who enjoy train travel. People will be able to book their seats from October 16.
However, not everyone has high hopes for the service, especially when it's traveling in Germany. Online, some Reddit users said that Deutsche Bahn's trains are often delayed.
