Spanish Bars May Charge More if You Sit in the Sun
When we're on holiday it's easy to end up in a "tourist trap." That's a place that attracts a lot of tourists and charges high prices, sometimes for products that aren't of high quality.
Often, tourists don't even realize they're being charged for certain things. But as millions of visitors get ready to enjoy the Spanish sun this summer, officials from the region of Andalusia are trying to make things a little easier for them.
Andalusia is home to a number of places that are very popular with tourists, including the cities of Granada, Málaga and Seville, as well as the beaches and bars of Marbella.
Things might be easier for tourists — but that doesn't mean they'll be cheaper.
In fact, the regional government has said that restaurants and bars can charge people different prices for sitting outside or inside, depending on the weather. So if you want to sit in the sun on a hot day, you might have to pay more!
However, restaurants will have to make it clear if there is a difference in price between two areas.
This is one of a number of rules that restaurants and bars have to follow.
They will also have to allow customers to pay with both card and cash, and menus must be available to be read on paper, not only through a QR code, so that people without a smartphone can still see it.
Restaurants and bars won't be allowed to include a service charge in the bill, and all prices in the menu must include tax.
They must also offer customers free tap water, not only bottled water that they must pay for. So even if you end up paying more for a table in the sun, at least you can stay refreshed for free!
