Lesson 5: Colors

Beginner
Class Duration: 30 minutes
Objective
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
name the colors
answer the question “Is it (color)?” with “Yes, it is” or “No, it isn’t.”
red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, pink, brown, black
Is it ~? / "Yes, it is." "No, it isn't."
Preparation
Exercise 3
Colored papers (red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, pink, brown, black) 2 to 3 pieces for each color.
(If colored papers are not available) Please print the colored circles below, 2 to 3 pieces for each page.
Stick them to the classroom walls, where the kids can still reach them.
Exercise 4
Please have objects that are colors red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, pink, brown, black available in the classroom. (you may also use colored post-its)
Exercise 1
Warm-Up (2 minutes)
The tutor will show crayons and ask students, “What are these?”
Students will answer or repeat after the tutor, "crayons."
The tutor will point to some crayons and ask "Do you know what color this is?”
Optionally, the students will show their own crayons.
Exercise 2
Listen and Repeat (2 minutes)
Students will practice saying the colors after the tutor.
Exercise 3
Let’s Play 1: Touch the Color! (5 minutes)
There will be lots of colored papers (or printouts of colored circles) on the walls. The tutor will shout out a random color (e.g. red!)
The students need to go to the colored papers/printouts of that color, touch them, and say the color name.
Exercise 4
Let's Play 2: Bring Me Game (10 minutes)
The tutor will show objects of certain colors and ask the students what colors they are.
After 3 colors, the tutor will do a review. They will show the pictures of the objects again and ask the students to say their colors.
After the review, students must go around the classroom and find objects of the same color.
Exercise 5
Let's Practice (5 minutes)
The tutor will practice a conversation with volunteer students.
The tutor will then call on random students to practice the conversations.
Is it (red)? / "Yes, it is." "No, it isn't."
Exercise 6
Let’s Play 3: Guessing Game (5 minutes)
The tutor will show a part of a picture of an object.
The students will have to answer the question “Is it (color)?” with “Yes, it is” or “No, it isn’t.”
The tutor will reveal the whole picture and check if the students’ answers are correct.
Option
: The tutor will also ask the students to name the object and say the correct color. (e.g. red apple)
