But Michelin knows that a meal doesn't have to be expensive to be exceptional. Michelin’s restaurant star rating system doesn't only use price as a way of judging the quality of a restaurant.
Michelin will give up to three stars based on food quality. It judges the quality of the ingredients, the flavor, the cooking techniques, the value for money – and the consistency of the food between guest visits.
The travel website Traveloka has made a list of the 50 cheapest Michelin one star and two star restaurants in each country around the world. The eight cheapest Michelin one star restaurants are all in Asia.
The cheapest Michelin one star restaurant in the world is Singapore’s Liao Fan Hong Kong Chicken Rice and Noodle restaurant where you can spend just $2.20 for a meal.
If you want a cheap but great meal in Japan, you can visit one of three Michelin one star restaurants. Osaka has Japan’s cheapest one star restaurant. It serves Chinese food and is fourth on the list of the 50 cheapest Michelin one star restaurants in the world.
In the U.S., you can choose from four Michelin one star restaurants. The average price for a meal at these restaurants is $25.50.
