Warm-up

Listen as your tutor reads out the text. Then have a conversation based on the question below.

Most hospitals have a department that deals with emergencies. In North America, a department like this is called "the ER", short for "Emergency Room". In other English-speaking countries, this is called "A&E" for "Accident and Emergency (Department)".

Read the dialogue aloud with your tutor. Then answer the questions below without referring back to the dialogue.

Hyun-woo's neighbor, Edith, is in A&E. The doctor comes out to update Hyun-woo.
	Hyun-woo How is Edith doing, doctor?
	Doctor We’ve confirmed that she had a heart attack. We're moving her out of the ICU now, but we'll need to monitor her condition for the next few days.
	Hyun-woo When can she come home?
	Doctor In about a week.
One week later, Edith is ready to be discharged.
	Doctor We feel that it's safe to discharge you.
	Edith Marvelous, thank you doctor!
	Doctor We've sent your prescriptions to the pharmacy you provided. While you're still recovering, avoid doing anything tiring.
	Edith Is there anything specific I should avoid?
	Doctor For example, don't try to walk up stairs too quickly or do too much housework.
