Pokémon Art Displayed at Japanese Exhibition
On YouTube, there are a lot of videos that teach people how to draw their favorite Pokémon characters.
One video showing users how to draw Pikachu has been watched 16 million times.
And it's not only children that enjoy making the popular video game creatures into art.
A museum in the city of Atami in Shizuoka prefecture has been holding an exhibition of 70 different Pokémon-inspired artworks.
The MOA Museum of Art's exhibition opened at the start of July, and goes on until the beginning of September.
Twenty artists have created pieces using lots of different materials, including metal and shells, with many made using traditional Japanese techniques.
Many of the pieces are decorative, but some could also be useful around the house — if they were for sale.
There's a vase that has the character Charizard climbing out of it, there are Pokémon incense holders and even a Pokémon-inspired kimono.
Some visitors on certain dates will also be able to take pictures with a Pikachu wearing a kimono.
"We hope children and their families enjoy Japanese beauty through Pokémon," the museum's Tokugo Uchida told The Mainichi Shimbun.
It's not the first time an exhibition like this has taken place. Similar events were held in Moriyama earlier this year, and in Ishikawa in 2023, as well as in Los Angeles.
Also in 2023, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam had a special Pokémon exhibition.
Artists created Pokémon artworks based on some of Van Gogh's famous paintings, and children were taught how to draw Pikachu!
