Lesson 8: This Is My Favorite Place

Exercise 1
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
The tutor will quickly introduce some of the places in the school and ask students “Where are you now?” or “Are you in a library now? Are you in a classroom now?” and the students answer.
The tutor will then introduce Tom, a cat. Students will close their eyes for a moment, while the tutor reveals Tom in one of the places on the screen.
When the students open their eyes, they should say where Tom is (e.g.“in the library”).
The tutor will repeat these steps for the remaining places.

Exercise 2
Listen and Repeat (5 minutes)
The tutor will teach the target vocabulary (places in the school) and students will repeat.
Students will also practice the sentence pattern, “This is the (place)”.

Exercise 3
Let’s Play 1: Guessing Game (5 minutes)
Students will have to guess where a girl is.
A picture of a place in the school where the girl is will be hidden behind colorful tiles.
The tutor will reveal the picture little by little, and students guess where it is before the whole picture is revealed.
Students will have to complete the girl’s sentence (e.g “This is the (place)”).

Listen and Repeat (5 minutes)
The tutor will teach basic directions and students will repeat them after the tutor.

Let’s Practice (3 minutes)
The tutor will show a picture of the boy going to the library.
Students will repeat and give directions after the tutor.
Exercise 6
Let’s Play 2: Give directions (7 minutes)
Students will form 2 groups.
Each group will be shown a picture of a boy who needs to go to a particular place in school. They need to help him get there by giving directions.
All the students in the group will then say, “This is the (place)” afterwards.
The two groups will take turns to play.
Go straight. / Turn left. / Turn right. / Stop!
