Airplane Cabin Designed to Project Images During Flight
Have you ever argued with someone over who will get the window seat on a plane? One company may be able to help — with their new airplane cabin that can show passengers almost any view as they fly.
Lufthansa Technik is a company that repairs and upgrades airplanes. Its newest design includes a system that can project images onto the walls and ceiling of an airplane cabin to make it seem like the plane is traveling through different environments.
Concept art for the cabin shows that it can project an undersea scene complete with fish onto the walls and ceiling of the plane. This creates the illusion that passengers are traveling under the sea and flying through the air at the same time.
The company designed the cabin, which is called the Explorer, for use on the Airbus ACJ330, a long-range private jet with lots of room inside. The cabin can seat between 10 and 16 passengers.
The company says an important part of the cabin design is that it can be used in many different ways. So as well as its projector, it also includes bedrooms, bathrooms, offices, and dining and conference areas.
The cabin design is inspired by Explorer super yachts, which are designed to allow their owners to travel long distances, usually in luxury. Most Explorer super yachts can carry a large crew with lots of different equipment and visit a wide variety of locations.
An early concept for the Explorer was shown at the Monaco Yacht Show in September, and Lufthansa Technik plans to show the completed version at the Dubai Air Show in November.
