Star Says Women Can Earn 12,000% Less in Hollywood
Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman has said that if her name was "Oliver" she would be paid more.
Colman was speaking to CNN about the gender pay gap — the difference in pay between men and women.
The 50-year-old, who won an Oscar for The Favourite in 2019, said she would be earning "a lot more" if she were a man.
Colman also said she disagreed with the idea that men are paid more because they're more popular with audiences.
"That hasn't been true for decades," she said.
Colman said she knew of an example where there was a 12,000% difference in pay between a man and a woman. However, she didn't give any more details on when or where this had happened.
Some information about Hollywood's gender pay gap has been leaked in recent years, with female stars often getting paid much less than male stars.
In a Forbes list of Hollywood's highest earners of 2023, there were eight men and just two women in the top 10: Margot Robbie and Jennifer Aniston.
However, some have said Colman should be using her fame to talk about the gender pay gap that exists for women in many other jobs, not only for actors who already earn millions.
Adam Sandler was the highest earning actor on the Forbes list. He made $73 million. Robbie was next with $59 million, while Tom Cruise was third with $45 million.
