Why do you think some people keep unnecessary objects, while others don't?
I think perhaps the main reason is because of sentimental value. For instance, my husband likes to keep lots of old objects – like his old school books – because they help him remember good times in his life.
Why do you think some objects increase in value as they grow older and others don't?
I think it's about how well they're made. For example, many antiques are really well-made, so they stay in good condition, whereas lots of cheaper mass-produced products aren't nearly as well-made. This means they tend to fall apart, so of course they won't go up in value.
Do you think it's important to maintain a connection with the past?
Yes, I do. I think the main reason is so we don't make the same mistakes that we made before. Perhaps the most obvious example of this is war. If we maintain a connection with the people who have come before us, we'll try to avoid repeating their mistakes.
