How to Create the Perfect Bedroom for Sleep
If you can't sleep, the problem might be your bedroom. If it isn't helping you get the rest you need, here are some small, easy changes to make.
Keeping your room tidy makes it a calmer, more relaxing place to be. Clean your room regularly, and make sure your things are put away. Even if you don't have a lot of space, using boxes to organize your things and hanging your clothes up can make a big difference.
It also helps if you only use your bedroom for rest. Work or study in a different room if you can, which also has the benefit of keeping desk clutter out.
Think about the light in your room. Light pollution can be a serious problem for people who live in cities where there are lots of street lights. Dark, thick curtains can be helpful, and if they aren't an option for you, try wearing an eye mask while you sleep.
But buying good curtains or eye masks won't help you much if you're staring at your phone in bed. The bright light from screens stops the body from realizing it's time to go to sleep — turn your devices off or keep them in a different room until the morning.
Finally, the temperature of your room can make a big difference in how well you sleep. You probably won't get a lot of rest if your bedroom feels like a fridge. A room that's too hot doesn't help either. The ideal temperature will vary among each person, but sleep experts recommend having your bedroom at around 18 degrees Celsius.
