How to Get Through Customs Quickly
After spending several hours on an airplane, the last thing anyone wants to do is wait in a long line. But since it can't be avoided, here are five ways to get through customs and immigration faster.
While choosing your flight, look carefully at the arrival times. If you can, pick a flight that lands between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. These times aren't as busy in many airports.
Make sure you choose a good seat. An easy way to get through customs quicker is to get off the plane first. With an aisle seat closest to the front of the plane, you can go right to immigration when the plane doors open.
Have your passport, plane ticket, and any landing forms you need ready. Flight attendants will give you any necessary forms before arrival, so have a pen ready.
If there's more than one line, choose the one with more single travelers. Single travelers are usually asked fewer questions and can go through quicker. Families can take longer as the immigration officer must check each passport and make sure all of their visas and other documents are in order.
Once it's your turn to talk to the immigration officer, stay calm while answering the questions. Usual questions include "How long will you stay?" and "What's the reason for your visit?" Keep your answers short and simple without adding extra information and you'll get through immigration in no time.
