Netflix Pop-Up Experience Sells Out in Tokyo
Since May, fans of some of Netflix's most popular shows have been able to take their fandom to new levels with a special pop-up event in Tokyo.
The streaming company opened an event called "Only On Netflix" at Q Plaza in Harajuku on May 20.
Popular shows like Wednesday, Stranger Things and Alice in Borderland are all there. But the bad news is that it looks like there are no more tickets available for the event, which ends on June 11.
Kaata Sakamoto, from Netflix, said the company wanted to "celebrate all entertainment fans in Japan" — and people were quick to book their free tickets.
The experience allows fans to take two "journeys." One is called "Love," and takes visitors through areas inspired by Bridgerton and Emily in Paris.
The other is called "Adventure." This journey sees fans enter Nevermore, the fictional school from Wednesday, as well as letting them "play a game to survive" in an Alice in Borderland area.
There are also pizza, ice cream and coffee inspired by Stranger Things and First Love.
There is also a "Weekly Features" area, where visitors have been given a first look at some of Netflix's newer shows made in Japan and South Korea, including a live-action One Piece show planned for later this year.
After years of growth, Netflix has been faced with more competition with the arrival of more and more new streaming services.
Short pop-up events have been one way to boost revenue. The company opened a Wednesday experience in London in December 2022, and took a special shopping experience to Los Angeles earlier that year.
This is the first time an event like this has arrived in Asia.
