Gamers Can Now Explore Gifu Castle in Fortnite
More tourists than ever before are visiting Japan. But with so much to see, some of the country's many landmarks have been looking for new ways to stand out.
In the center of Japan, Gifu Castle looks down on the city below. It was once the home of the powerful 16th century leader Oda Nobunaga.
And now people from all around the world can explore the castle — without leaving their bedrooms!
That's because gamers can visit the castle — virtually — while playing the popular online game Fortnite.
Developers have created a virtual Gifu Castle that players can explore in a number of different game modes.
The idea is to get people interested in the castle and encourage them to visit.
In "free mode," players can explore the whole castle, speak to people they meet — including old warriors — and learn about the castle's history.
In "minigame mode," there are three different games to play. Gamers can win points by looking for treasure, racing along an obstacle course and shooting arrows.
There is also a mode that lets players build their own castle in Gifu.
People can play the game in Japanese, English, Korean and Chinese.
To find the game, users must first download Fortnite on their smartphone, computer or console. Then they can use a code that is found on the Gifu Castle website to search for the game.
The castle was first built in the 13th century, but it has twice been destroyed and rebuilt, most recently in 1956.
People visit for the history, but also for the great views from the castle, which is on the top of Mount Kinka.
