Top Restaurant Returning to Kyoto Before Closing
It has never been easy to get a table at the Copenhagen restaurant Noma, which has been named the best in the world five times.
But anyone who dreams of tasting chef René Redzepi's award-winning food may still have a chance.
Redzepi said in 2023 that Noma would be changing at the end of 2024. Instead of serving customers, the restaurant would become a "food lab" — a test kitchen for new flavors.
But the restaurant in Denmark will now be open until the end of the spring in 2025.
And food lovers in Japan will also get the chance to visit a Noma pop-up restaurant in Kyoto before the end of this year.
It's the second time that the pop-up has opened in Kyoto. It first opened in the city's Ace Hotel between March and May 2023 and it's coming back to the same hotel from October 8 to December 18.
Anyone who gets a table at the pop-up restaurant can expect to pay more than $1,000 for their food and drink. Prices have increased since last year.
Customers must pay a set price when they book. It's about $600 for the food, $335 for drinks and a 10% service charge.
Noma is known for its modern Scandinavian food, made using ingredients that are in season. And after visiting Japan last spring, the restaurant's chefs wanted a chance to use the best of Japan's autumn produce.
And even after the Danish restaurant becomes a food lab next year, Noma has said that it will "pop up in different parts of the world — including Copenhagen."
Wherever Noma goes, you can expect it to be very hard to get a table!
