Dubai to Open World's Tallest Ferris Wheel
The world's tallest Ferris wheel is being built in Dubai, and will be more than 250 meters high when it's finished.
The Ain Dubai Ferris wheel is expected to open in late October 2021. The wheel will have 48 cabins and space for 1,750 passengers — almost 40 per cabin. Tickets are already available and cost from about $35 per person, with a ride on the wheel taking just under 40 minutes.
Guests will be able to choose to ride in simple observation cabins, or a cabin with a bar inside. Cabins will also be available for private events like weddings and birthdays, offering 360-degree views of Dubai.
Ain Dubai is being built on Bluewaters Island, a man-made island next to the Palm Jumeirah that's also home to luxury homes and hotels.
Ain Dubai means "Dubai Eye" in Arabic, and the wheel will be almost twice as tall as the popular London Eye. It will also be 82 meters taller than the High Roller in Las Vegas, which has the record for the tallest Ferris wheel in the world for now.
Building work on the Ain Dubai started in 2015, and according to CNN, it was meant to have opened in 2020, but the coronavirus pandemic meant the date had to be pushed to October this year.
Also delayed by the pandemic, Expo Dubai 2020 will open in October too. The Expo starts on October 1 and will continue until March 31, 2022. The event will bring together people from all over the world to share science, technology and business ideas, as well as art and culture.
