Lost Parakeet Rides Bullet Train, Travels to Tokyo
A pet parakeet is making headlines in Japan after traveling over 500 kilometers from Kyoto to Tokyo.
But the bird didn't fly all the way there — it took a train!
The parakeet was spotted on the Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train, with a passenger posting videos of the bird on X.
Small pets are allowed on trains in Japan, as long as they stay in cages at all times.
But this parakeet was spotted flying around and sitting on the shoulders of other passengers.
The fact that it was so relaxed around people made the passengers believe it was a stray pet.
The bird was first spotted on the backpack of a foreign tourist waiting to ride the train at Kyoto Station. The tourist then got on the train, with the bird still sitting on his backpack.
But the pet didn't belong to the foreign tourist. And during the trip, a member of staff walked up and down the train with the parakeet on his shoulder, looking for its owner.
However, the bird's owner wasn't on the train at all, and the parakeet had gotten on the train all by itself.
After no one claimed the bird, it was taken to a police station in Tokyo.
Meanwhile, after a woman in Kyoto found out her parakeet was missing, she posted on X, asking if anyone had seen her pet.
To her surprise, another user replied, saying it had been spotted on a train going to Tokyo.
The bird's owner has since been reunited with her parakeet, and said she would take care not to let it escape again.
