Tokyo's Shibuya Scramble Starbucks Reopens
The Starbucks store at Tokyo's Shibuya Scramble has reopened.
Often used as a meeting point for people at the Japanese capital's famous crossing, the coffeehouse closed in October 2023.
But it has been given a new look and began serving customers again on April 25.
It had to close last year when the media company Tsutaya, which is the building's main tenant, closed for refurbishments.
Many Tokyo coffee lovers missed their store, which let people enjoy a drink while watching the crowds below.
But those views are back, and the coffeehouse now fills the whole second floor of the building.
The ground floor is still the place to buy takeout drinks, while the second floor has space for 100 people to sit.
The seating area is dominated by a 71-meter-long green ribbon where drinkers can sit, with some getting a view of the Shibuya Scramble from the front windows.
And the store isn't just selling the usual drinks and snacks — it's also offering exclusive merchandise to celebrate its own reopening.
This includes a special "bearista." Bearistas are teddy bears that Starbucks sells, where the name is a combination of "bear" and "barista."
This Shibuya bearista is in the shape of a green daruma, which is a Japanese doll that's believed to help make wishes come true.
The toy costs 2,600 yen — about $17 — and has the kanji for "luck" on one side and "Starbucks Tokyo" on the other.
Of course, if you don't want any merchandise, you can just get a coffee and watch the world go by!
