Don't Look Down: Netherlands Hosts Crazy Bike Race
The Netherlands is known for its bicycles. It's easy to get around the towns and cities of the country by bike — millions of people do it every day.
So you'll see all sorts of different bikes on the country's streets: electric bikes, racing bikes, mountain bikes and even tandems — bicycles ridden by two people.
But on one Saturday afternoon this September, there were even more different types of bicycles on show in The Hague.
There was a bicycle shaped like a hot dog, another that had been made to look like an ice pop, and one in the shape of a reindeer.
They were all tandems, and they weren't riding on the city's streets, but on a very narrow, bumpy platform in the middle of a canal!
This was an event organized by Red Bull — known in Dutch as "Stalen Ros," which means "steel horse."
Thirty-eight teams took part in the event, which was being held for the second time.
The course was about 80 meters long, and made to look like a road. But this wasn't like most Dutch roads, which are quite flat.
It began with quite a steep slope. Teams then had to cycle over bumps and cobblestones, and through a very small roundabout.
The final few meters were very narrow, and this was where some of the teams fell off the side of the "road" and into the water below.
Those who were lucky enough to get to the end had to ring a bell when they got there.
Teams were scored on the creativity of their bicycle designs and costumes, and also on how long it took them to get to the finish.
The fastest team did it in less than 11 seconds — without getting wet!
