Phone Fan Breaks Record for Biggest Collection
Do you ever hear your phone ringing but you just can't find it? Is it under that cushion? Behind the sofa? In a pocket?
Now, imagine how Wences Palau Fernandez feels when he hears a phone ring — he's broken the world record for having the biggest collection of mobile phones, with more than 3,600 different phones.
But if you want to invite him to a party you might have more luck knocking on his door than calling one of his phones!
Fernandez, who lives in Barcelona, doesn't actually use these phones — they're displayed in a room on moving shelves.
It's like a library of old telephones!
Many of them are made by the Finnish company Nokia. He said his interest in phones began in 1999 when he was given a Nokia 3210 for Christmas.
He told Guinness World Records that he began collecting Nokias in 2008. He wanted to buy all of the models he hadn't previously been able to afford.
He now has more than 700 Nokias, including some limited-edition ones from a special Star Wars collection. The company has released just over 1,000 of these phones, and Fernandez plans to keep collecting.
He says his collection could be described as a museum. But he doesn't just have Nokias in his collection; he also has phones made by Apple, Blackberry and Samsung.
He said his hobby has taken a lot of time and cost a lot of money, and although his collection is not finished yet, he said he was ready to share it with the world!
