Lesson 3: Fruits

Objective
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to
name different fruits
answer the question "What’s this?" with "It’s a/an (fruit)."
apple, orange, pineapple, lemon, banana, strawberry, melon, cherry, water melon
What's this? / It's a/an ~.
Preparation
Exercise 5
Pictures of fruit they will look for - (5) apple, (2) orange, (3)pineapple, (4) lemon, (6) banana (please print one copy and cut).
Please mix all the pictures and put them in a box or in a container and place it on a table in front.
Exercise 1
Let’s Play 1: Guessing Game (5 minutes)
Students will practice the vocabulary (fruits). Introduce the fruits below. Let the students repeat after you.
After each fruit, there’s a set of numbers. Students will say the numbers out loud.
There’s a fruit hidden behind one of the numbers. Students will have to guess where the fruit is hidden.
Exercise 2
Listen and Repeat (2 minutes)
Students will repeat the vocabulary after the tutor.
apple, orange, pineapple, lemon, banana, strawberry, melon, cherry, water melon
Exercise 3
Let’s play 2: Silly Banana (8 minutes)
The tutor will show the fruits again one by one. Students will have to name each fruit.
When they see the “Silly Banana” picture, the whole class should shout “Silly Banana!” stand up, and dance.
The pictures will be mixed up again and the “Silly Banana” will reappear.
The tutor can change what actions students should do when they see it, for example jump 5 times or clap 3 times.
Exercise 4
Let’s Practice (5 minutes)
The tutor will practice the conversation with a volunteer student.
The tutor will call some pairs of students to practice the conversations.
What’s this? / It’s a(n) ~.
Exercise 5
Let’s Play 2: Fruit Hunt (8 minutes)
The tutor will call a pair of students to go in front where the fruit box/container is.
A picture of a fruit will be shown behind colorful tiles. (e.g. apple). The tutor will start revealing it slowly, and students will guess the fruit.
After they guessed correctly, they need to search for pictures of that fruit (e.g. 5 pictures of an apple) in the box/container in front of them. They will have 10 seconds to find the pictures.
When they’ve found all the pictures, the students will say “It’s a/an (fruit)!”
