Lord of the Rings Series Needs Strange Looking Actors
A new Lord of the Rings series is looking for extras who look strange to play monsters called "orcs." The series will be made in New Zealand in 2020, but is having trouble finding unusual looking people to be the orcs in a small country of about 4.8 million people.
Amazon is having the series made for its Prime streaming service. It has not shared what the story will be or who will be in it, but website Indiewire says it will take place a long time before the story told in the three Lord of the Rings films made in the early 2000s.
The Daily Mail reports that Facebook has been used to try and find orc extras. The series needs people who are either very tall or very short, and that have "wonderful noses," "character faces" or missing teeth. People with natural red hair or white hair are also wanted.
One New Zealand man who decided to apply to be an extra in the series is Justin Smith, who lost all of his teeth a few years ago in a surfing accident. The 41-year-old told The Wall Street Journal, "Basically, I'm short, I've got red hair and missing teeth."
He has sent in a number of photos, and says he is waiting to find out if he has got an audition. Another New Zealand man, Nick King, has applied after being told by friends that he had a "character face."
