Warm-up

Listen as your tutor reads out the text. Then have a conversation based on the question below.

In many English-speaking countries, children believe in the tooth fairy. When kids lose a tooth, they put it under their pillow that night. The tooth fairy takes the tooth and leaves behind some money.

Do children in your country do anything special with their baby teeth? Please explain your answer.

Tip: "Tooth" or "Teeth"?

"Teeth" is the plural form of "tooth", not "tooths". This is similar to how "foot" becomes "feet".

Dialogue Practice

Read the dialogue aloud with your tutor. Then answer the questions below without referring back to the dialogue.

Ling is at the dentist's office to get her teeth checked.
	Ling Hi Doctor, I have a toothache here.
Ling points at her right cheek.
	Ling I avoided chewing with this side for a few days. The gums around it were sore as well.
	Dentist OK I'll take a look. Open your mouth as wide as you can please.
The dentist takes a look.
	Dentist Well I see a cavity developing, so you'll need a filling. Let's take an x-ray to look at the area in more detail. Please bite down on this.
The dentist performs an x-ray, prints the scan, and shows it to Ling.
	Dentist As you can see, one of your wisdom teeth is coming in.
	Ling Oh no! Does it need to be removed?
	Dentist Not at this point. But if you experience any pain in future you should come back in for another appointment.
