Woman to Go to Jail After Lying to Get $185,000 Job
An Australian woman who lied on her resume to get a government job that pays $185,000 USD a year is going to go to prison for at least one year, reports CNN.
Veronica Hilda Theriault got the job as chief information officer in the South Australia Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC), after lying on her resume about her education and what jobs she had held. She also pretended to be her old boss when her references were being checked.
She even had her brother, Alan Hugh Melville Corkill, write a false reference for her, and later got him government work for which he was paid over $15,000 in just three weeks, says the Daily Mail.
Theriault lied on her LinkedIn profile too, by using a photo of celebrity Kate Upton as her profile picture, reports Australian news channel 7 News.
The judge said that she used a false payslip to try and get the department to pay her more for the job, saying it showed what she had been earning at a previous job, says ABC.
Theriault had the job for about one month, and was paid $22,500 before she was fired.
The judge noted that Theriault has mental health problems. However, she was found guilty and given 25 months of prison, but she could get out after a year.
