'Fake Lawyer' Arrested in Kenya After Winning 26 Cases
A "fake lawyer" who is accused of practicing law with no legal training has been arrested in Kenya — after winning 26 cases.
The man, who practiced law using the name "Brian Mwenda" is accused of stealing the identity of a real lawyer called Brian Mwenda Ntwiga.
According to Kenyan media, the man won all of his cases even though he had no training.
The man was arrested after the "real" Brian Mwenda contacted the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), saying the information on his online LSK account had been changed and another man's photo had been added.
Although the LSK and the country's Director of Public Prosecutions are not happy with the accused man, he has won some supporters.
Kenya's Central Organization of Trade Unions said he had a "brilliant mind" because he did so well without legal training.
He has also won the support of Mike Sonko, who was previously governor of Kenya's capital city, Nairobi.
Sonko — who in the past has been accused of several illegal activities himself — posted a video with the accused man on X, which used to be called Twitter, in which he said that the people accusing the man are "nincompoops."
"He's never killed anyone, he's not a terrorist," said Sonko.
The "fake lawyer" also said that he was innocent in the video and thanked people for supporting him.
The story of the "fake lawyer" has been big news in Kenya, but he's not the only one. Kenya's Director of Public Prosecutions said that he has noticed an increase in cases of fake lawyers.
