US Star Complains About 'Creepy' Fans
US singer Chappell Roan has become one of music's biggest stars in 2024. But she's not happy with the behavior of some "creepy" fans, and says she's had enough.
The 26-year-old, whose debut album has been one of the most successful of the year, posted two videos on TikTok complaining about the way people have behaved toward her.
She said that she and her family have been stalked and harassed, she has been shouted at in the street, and people have gotten angry if she doesn't want to take a photo with them.
Roan said she knows this sort of thing happens to a lot of celebrities, but said in one video: "That does not make it okay, that doesn't make it normal. That doesn't mean that I want it, that doesn't mean that I like it."
The singer has more than 3 million followers on TikTok, and the two videos were watched almost 20 million times in the two days after they were posted.
"I'm allowed to say no to creepy behavior," she added.
Roan's album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, made it to number two on the US charts, behind only Taylor Swift, while it got to the top of the charts in the UK at the start of August.
She also said in her videos: "It's weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make."
Experts call this sort of fan behavior a "parasocial relationship" — when fans believe they know a famous person because they enjoy their work or follow them on social media.
