Thousands Take Part in World Jigsaw Puzzle Competition
If you feel like you've watched everything on Netflix and it's too cold outside to go for a walk, here's something else you could try during the winter: jigsaw puzzles.
Many people love to spend their free time puzzling — some really enjoyed it during the coronavirus pandemic — but did you know you could become a world champion puzzler?
That's right, there's an international puzzle competition, and this year's competition took place last month, ending on September 22.
Thousands of people traveled to Spain for the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championship. The competition included an individual event, an event for pairs and a team competition.
The goal was very simple: finish your puzzle faster than anyone else!
The complicated part was the puzzle. The individual competition began with more than 1,000 people. They had 90 minutes to complete a 500-piece puzzle as quickly as possible.
In the end, 180 people made it to the final, where they had to complete another 500-piece puzzle they'd never seen before.
The picture was of a group of tigers in the jungle but Norway's Kristin Thuv showed no fear and finished it in under 38 minutes.
In the pairs final, 100 teams had a puzzle of 1,000 pieces, while the groups had to complete a 2,000-piece jigsaw.
All the winners took home about $1,100 in prize money as well as a trophy.
The competition is open to people of all ages and nationalities. So if you think you have the skills to take part, turn off Netflix and get the jigsaw puzzles out!
