Plan, Snack, Sleep: Staying Healthy During Exams
Whether it's at school, university or at work, exams and tests are part of life for many of us.
Most of the time, we really want to do well and so we may feel some stress.
But experts say that we need to make the right choices so that we stay healthy while we're preparing for exams.
One of the things that many of us do during exams is to drink coffee or energy drinks to help us work late into the night.
But while we may get a short-term boost from caffeine, this can then stop us from sleeping when we want to — and sleep is extremely important during an exam period.
Universities often suggest that students make a study plan. With a plan, you should be able to choose the times you study and the times you take breaks. This may mean you don't need to study late into the night.
That plan doesn't only need to include study times — it's also good for your mental and physical health to make time to see friends and family and to get exercise.
"Going for a walk, run, or to the gym is a great way to clear your head and can help you focus," says the Irish health service.
It's also easy to eat fast food during the exam period to save time, but experts say that small, regular healthy meals are a better idea.
These can include easy-to-make healthy snacks like nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables, but things like eggs and fish are also good for your brain, as well as plenty of water.
Of course, if you are feeling too much exam stress, it's a good idea to speak to a doctor or someone from your school, university or company.
