Snorkel in Lakes and Lagoons in Palawan
The long, thin island of Palawan is the most southwestern large island of the Philippines, with its southern part nearly touching the island of Borneo. With caves, cliffs, coral reefs and white-sand beaches, it's the perfect place for lovers of swimming, diving and exploring nature.
There's almost too much to do, but here are a few things you might want to see!
With clear water and 4 kilometers of white sand, this surprisingly uncrowded beach has been named among the 10 best in the world by TripAdvisor.
Spend your time swimming, surfing, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding — and end your day by walking to Nacpan's nearby "twin," Calitang Beach, for perfect views as the sun goes down!
Don't forget to pick up a snack at the beach entrance, and visit the many local restaurants nearby.
Nacpan Beach is in El Nido, a large municipality and popular resort destination that covers the northern part of Palawan Island.
Accessible by boat from El Nido, Miniloc Island is known for its Big Lagoon and Small Lagoon.
Rent a kayak to explore the cliffs, coves and clear water of the Big Lagoon, while the Small Lagoon is a great place for snorkeling. Also full of cliffs and caves, the Small Lagoon has an entrance so tight it can only be entered by swimming or by kayak!
Found on Coron Island to the north of Palawan's main island, Kayangan Lake is known for its clear water and beautiful underwater rock formations — making it another perfect snorkeling place!
Puerto-Princesa Subterranean River National Park
Found closer to the middle of Palawan, this park has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. It features an 8-kilometer-long underground river, parts of which can be explored by taking a canoe through the beautiful caves.
The park also features many animals, like birds, bats, monkeys and sea turtles.
