LeBron and Son Play Together to Make NBA History
Basketball legend LeBron James had dreamed of this moment. On October 22, LeBron and his son Bronny became the first father and son to play in the NBA together, when they took to the court for the Los Angeles Lakers.
It was the Lakers' first game of the season and a memorable moment for the James family — and for the sport. LeBron gave his 20-year-old son a pep talk before they rose from the bench and walked into the history books.
The pair came onto the court together with four minutes left in the second quarter in the Lakers' game against Minnesota.
LeBron, who is now 39 and is the top scorer in NBA history said: "I will never forget that moment."
LeBron had already started the game and played 13 minutes before he teamed up with Bronny for a little more than two minutes.
LeBron James is one of the greatest players in NBA history, a four-time champion and 20-time All-Star, while LeBron James Jr. — known as Bronny — was picked up by the Lakers last summer.
They are the first father and son to play in the world's top basketball league at the same time, let alone on the same team.
"Don't worry about mistakes. Just go out and play hard," LeBron told his son before they entered the court.
Later, Bronny thanked the Lakers fans for their support and encouragement, but said his main focus was "trying not to mess up."
It hasn't been an easy journey to the top for Bronny, who survived cardiac arrest and open heart surgery in the summer of 2023.
And while this was a big moment for him, it's thought that the Lakers will soon send Bronny to play in the G League — the NBA's minor league — to help him improve his skills for regular NBA basketball.
